Ancient History of Tropea.jpg

Since 1638

The Full Story

The city of Tropea has its roots in the Greek-Roman age; its historical center bears many traces of all the historical periods that followed: founded as a Greek colony then passed under Roman rule, then occupied by the Normans, then by the Aragonese under the Kingdom of Naples which remained tied for a long time.

From the 17th to the 20th century, the property (known as “Casa-Forno Braghò”), was the main bakery in the country that, in addition to providing bread and bakery products, became a meeting point for master builders and orange workers, mandarins and onions.

In the painting of Giovan Battista Pacichelli "The Kingdom of Naples in perspective" of 1705, the building is depicted while serving, directly from the promontory to ships at sea, baked goods through the use of long ropes. The property is a magnificent example of seventeenth century architecture.

Unofficial sources claim that the property was used as a French fortress in the mid-1600s

The Casa-Forno Braghò from the beginning of the 20th century lay in a state of neglect until the recent complete renovation completed in 2014.
